Dawn E. Bannon
HI Everyone, my name is Dawn, have been a Backstage with Jon Bonjovi member, for a very happy 28 or 29 years, I forget the year when I joined!! Let me tell you about myself, I am Handy-Cap, from a Motorcycle accident, on July 9th., 1990, I was not wearing a Helment and landed on the right side of my head, which put me in a coma till sometime in December of that same year. When I awoke, I was in Christina Hospital I had severe pain in my belly, they sent me to Penn., to a Hospital called Paoli Memorial, were Dr. Robert C. Fried did my first of many surgery's, they sent me over to Brynmawr Rehab cause it was right next door, cause I had to learn how to do everything again, I went from Paoli to Brynmawr Rehab., back and forth for a year, and they weren't sure how bad my injury's and my mind were, so they gave me a lot of tests at Brynmawr, like who is this Women, I said my Mother and they kept asking me stuff like that, I had Physical and Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy cause yes I needed to learn how to speak again, they did some major tests on my brain and I got a closed head injury from the accident, that has left me with a speech problem, I have to slow down when I talk or you will not be able to understand me, and get me mad or upset, and there is NOTHING that comes out of my mouth that you will understand, NOTHING, because I flew 52 feet and landed on the right side, of my head and that has left me so that my left side of my body, don't work normal anymore, I will NEVER walk by myself again!! I am stick in a Wheel-Chair, for the rest of my life!! The Therapist's would teach me how I was suppose to do something, but I learned how to do EVERYTHING, "MY WAY", by myself!! And I use to have major fights with this one, whom was in charge of P.T., I LOVED Speech, that picture of Jon in those Tan Pants, really got me talking!! lol After 20 years, I have learned how to tie my shoe strings, in a bow all by myself, by using just me right hand and my left hand just holds it!! Let me tell you about my first memory of Bonjovi after my accident:
My Mother, whom I LOVE with all of my Heart and Sole, ALWAYS had M.T.V., on in my Room, she thought that music would wake me up, I LOVED Steve Perry at that time and I still do, I LOVED Journey ever since I saw them one night, on the Wolf Man Jack show, I think it was 1979, Mom and her boyfriend Lenny, and my Daddy Joe, God Rest his Sole, would be there with me, and my first memory of being awake was seeing this video on M.T.V., this person with long Blonde hair, I didn't have any memory of Bonjovi back in the 80's and to this day I still don't, I have LOVED long hair, since I was in School and Blonde was my Favorite, and I yelled "WHO IS THAT, AND LOOK AT THOSE TIGHT, PURPLE, LEATHER PANTS" I LOVED tight, Leather pants, I am an 80's kid and purple is my FAVORITE color now, latter I found out it was Bonjovi and the video "Runaway", Mom looked at my Father and said, "Dawn is gonna be just fine", and have been in LOVE with Bonjovi ever since that first day that I remember seeing Bonjovi again, because Mom went threw the stuff in my car and I had a couple of Bonjovi's tapes in there, Bonjovi has been threw EVERYTHING with me, I was over at Brynmawr Rehab., and Paoli Hospital back and forth for a year, I had pictures of Jon EVERYWHERE in my room, no matter where I had a room, Jon in those tan pants, went EVERYWHERE with me, my surgeon, Dr. Robert C. Fried, him and I really became close, I found out that this man is Jewish, so I have learned a lot of Jewish stuff from him, then I found out that David is Jewish, so now I celebrate, there Holidays too, he operated on me so many times, he even played Bonjovi for me while he was putting me to sleep, this is why I LOVE the song "Bad Medicine" and he liked Bonjovi so much he even played the Album, "New Jersey", while he was operating on me!!! So I spent a whole year in Penn., I had nothing else that I could learn to do, so Brynmawr released me and I came back to Delaware, and I went threw 4 Retirement Homes, till I hit the 5th., one called Episcopal Church Home, that Retirement Home was the BEST, I met a Women who was the Director of Nursing, her name is Cheryl Jordon, her and I became very close, she would come down every week day and curl my hair, it all started around Christmas, I would go past her office to get my Morning Coffee, I HATE decafinated Coffee and that's all they had on the meal trays, so I would go into the Kitchen and get regular Coffee, and her office was right by the kitchen and the Dining Room, one day she asked me do I need help with anything, the beauticians was off that week for Christmas, I said I needed to learn how to curl my hair myself, she said would you like me to come down tomorrow, and she did and she said I can come tomorrow if you want me to, I said YESSSSSSSSSSSS, Thank-You, I think it was because they moved my room, to the last room, down the hall on the left all by myself, because I played my radio 24-7 to loud and the T.V., was rocking to Bonjovi from the time I got up till the time I went to bed, I was the youngest person that lived there, I was only 26, I think Cheryl just loved Bonjovi, that's why she came and curled my hair, everyday Monday threw Friday in the Morning before she went to work. LOL Her FAVORITE song, was a remake that Bonjovi did of a song that Peggy Lee did called "FEAVER", my Daddy taped "Keep the Faith" an evening with Bonjovi off of M.T.V., one night for me, I knew it was on, but there was NO cable in the Nursing Home, but 93.3 W.M.M.R., Pierre Roberts said that the Concert Broadcasted on the Radio that night, I recorded it on a tape, where the tape is at now, God only knows, one day while she was in my room, curling my hair and we were watching a Bonjovi V.C.R. tape, I had the radio on to 93.3 W.M.M.R., and I heard them announce that Bonjovi was going to hold a Concert Tuesday, February 22nd.,1993, at the Philadelphia Spectrum, so I was kidding around and said "DO YOU WANT TO GO AND SEE BONJOVI LIVE", instead of watching them on a tape and to my surprise, she didn't even have to think about it and said YESSSSSSSSSS, I just looked at her and said REALLY, she said SURE!! I asked my Mom if I could go, so her and my Daddy bought 2 tickets for that night!! My Surgeon had phoned the Fan Club, I think, and talked to someone there and asked if Jon could meet with me, I did not know about any of this till after the Concert, but before we left to go to the Concert they had bought me a Rose, that I was supposed to throw up on stage, when Jon sang "Bed of Roses", but I never got that close to the stage, our seats were great, but there was no way that I could throw Jon a Rose!! lol It was almost the end of the Concert, which was my very first Bonjovi Concert and this gentleman came up and asked me, "ARE YOU DAWN", I said YES and went right back to watching the Concert,(MY VERY FIRST BONJOVI CONCERT, I WASN'T GOING TO MISS NOTHING) he said "DAWN, DO YOU WANT TO MEET JON BONJOVI", it took about 2 or 3 seconds, I slowly looked at him and said, OH MY GODDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD, YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS, (I think it was Matt) he said O.K., fallow me so we did, Cheryl pushed my chair over to the steps and I panicked and said I can't walk, he said I know, you just wait right here, I thought that, that was were I was gonna meet Jon, BUT OH NOOOOOOOOO, 4 men carried my me and my Wheelchair down 2 flights of steps and rolled me into Jon's dressing room, and the gentleman said you wait right here and Jon will be with you in a minute, while I was waiting, I was talking to Cheryl this man came in and walked around me, looking here and there, I was so nervous about meeting Jon, I could not think , but who this man was, was Jon's Body Guard, Joe "Smoke'n Joe" Frazier, the famous Boxer, if I wasn't so nervous, I may have noticed him and could have got his Autograph, but I didn't and he passed away November 7th., 2011, I have his picture of that night, he is standing right next to Jon, right before Jon came in the room to meet me!! He was GREAT making sure that I WAS Wheel-Chair bound and wouldn't hurt Jon!! I met Alec John Such which he said HI to me, he was so nice and I said HI back, and then this person came across my right side to my left and said "HI DAWN", I was talking with Cheryl and said hello and went back to Cheryl and all I could see was Cheryl's eyes, she said "DAWNNNNNNNNNNN", then I heard this cute little laugh, then I realized what I did, so I turned and said "HI BONJOVI", Jon said, "DAWN PLEASE DON'T CALL ME BONJOVI, YOU CAN CALL ME JON", at that moment I MELTED!!! Then he gave me a kiss, and a Autographed "Keep the Faith" Album cover picture, and it says "TO DAWN SMILE JON BONJOVI" he gave me one of his his guitar picks, which I will NEVER see again, because I gave it to someone whom was dieing, her name was Stella Connor and she LOVED Jon so much, I had her join the Fan Club, I met her on Face Book, Stella ALWAYS wanted to go to a Bonjovi Concert, she had COPD and she passed away July 4th., 2014, I sent it to her in the mail and I told her, "JON PUT THIS IN MY HAND, SO I KNOW ITS JON'S", it made me happy getting it, but it thrilled me to no end giving it away!! I think that's what they call "PAY FORWARD"!! Jon asked me if I liked the lay out of the songs, if my seating was O.K., if I could see and hear everything well, I said everything was PERFECT, then I handed him the Rose, that they gave me at the Home and he gave me another kiss and told me, "TO KEEP THE FAITH", that night was so special, that 5 months latter I came home to live, I have learned how to do almost EVERYTHING by myself, I even quit smoking!! Bonjovi did "Saturday Night Live", Season 18, Episode 10 with the host Danny DeVito, January 9th., 1993, Bonjovi taped Jay Leno the morning of February 22nd., 1993, and had a Concert, for "Keep the Faith", that night, so my Daddy had taped it for me, I could not see it cause I was at the Concert and I met Jon that night, Bonjovi did "Bed of Roses" and "In these Arms" on Jay's show, I never knew Bonjovi was on Jay's show till my Daddy brought the tape into the Nursing Home Saturday, Daddy came and saw me every Tuesday and Saturday, Jon is wearing the same shirt for that show that he is wearing in the picture with me!! Mrs. "B" Carol, Jon's Mother was running the Fan Club at this time and this was when we would receive our News latter's every Month or every 3 months I forget, from the Fan Club, in the mail, Mrs. "B", had put the pictures of Jon and I in the News letter, and she sent me a 5 x 7, picture of Jon and wrote on it telling me that she loved the pictures and to look for them, in next months issue, and she sent me a huge picture, poster size of Jon and Jon, holding a guitar and it was Autographed by Jon to! I framed both of them and it is up on my wall!!
My 2nd., Bonjovi Concert was up at the Philadelphia Spectrum, it was the second and final Concert to any place where I could go and see a "Keep the Faith" Concert, it was on Saturday, August 6th., 1993., at the Philadelphia Spectrum. That day was so eventful, Bonjovi got the name Bonjovi inducted into the "Wall of Fame" at the Philadelphia Spectrum, Kathlean Sullivan read the proclamation and Mayor Edward G. Rendel declared that August 6th., 1993, as Bonjovi Day, Jon, Richie, Dave, Tico and Alex John Such, received a bell and a proclamation, for selling out the Spectrum, many of times that there was a Concert held there! And I went to the "Keep the Faith" Concert that night, at the Philadelphia Spectrum I was at Home and Cheryl came over here and picked me up took me to the Concert and that Monday she moved to Florida, because she had retired and now and this is where she lives. Her and I still talk on the phone and E-mail each other.
This is my 3rd., Bonjovi Concert, I have only been to 3 Bonjovi Concerts in 20 years, and this Concert was called, "Because We Can", it was held Wednesday, November 5th., 2013, 20 years after the very first two in 1993 and it was AMAZING!!!! It was held at the "Wells Fargo Center", the "Big Joint" as Pierre Roberts from 93.3 W.M.M.R. calls it, because the Philadelphia Spectrum was no longer there, they tore it down! I was called Cinderella, because it was something that I had been praying for and wishing for to come true with what seamed like, FOREVER, Cinderella's wish came true and I felt like the Belle of the Ball that night, I got my wish that I had waited 20 years for to come true, I got to hear my FAVORITE song "Bad Medicine" again LIVE, I got to see my Prince Charming and 3 new members of Bonjovi, Bobby Bandiera, Hugh McDonald and Phil X, with some help from my 2 Fairy God Mothers, one of them has been my best Friend since Jr. High School Marsha Beck, she picked Cinderella up in her carriage and took her to the Wells Fargo Center, it was my very first time at the Wells Fargo Center, or as Pierre Roberts who is on 93.3 W.M.M.R., calls it, "The Big Joint", that place was HUGE, and my very first time meeting my 2nd Fairy God Mother, Emily Canter, she is the BEST, she gave Marsha and I rings to wear that night that said Rock Star, all 3 of us had that same ring on that night, took a picture of all 3 hands that night, when I met her she gave me a big hug and a picture, Autographed by Jon with Jon in a boxing ring holding a Microphone, like the Announcers hold in the boxing ring!!!! A lot of people from Back Stage at that time made me a picture that says "DAWN OUR CINDERELLA, IS GOING TO THE BONJOVI BALL, and a lot of people from the Fan Club at that time signed it and it has my picture in the middle, the one of me and my Cat, who I LOVED with all my heart, he passed away years ago, he was named after Jon's solo song, "MIRACLE", that night was a "MIRACLE" for me!!! Cinderella, was wearing her Tierra that night and was dressed in blue cause I was a "PRINCESS ON WHEELS", and Emily gave me a Bonjovi Book, "WORK" I was so excited to be at the Concert, everyone asked me for months before I went to the Concert "what was the one thing that you wanted to see most", well I wanted to see Jon on stage of cource and hear Bonjovi play, but more then ANYTHING, I have been waiting 20 years to hear my "FAVORITE" song, "Bad Medicine", that's all I wanted, to hear it LIVE again, I watched the whole Concert and thought I am NOT going to get my wish, until the very last song, Dave hit the Keys, then Tico hit the drums, Marsha and Emily took 2 or 3 steps away from me caused I screamed, MYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY SONGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!! I spent 20 years listening to it on the radio or threw my T.V., but to hear it LIVE, I thought I had died and was in heaven, I SANG IT SO LOUD, I lost my voice and thought that Jon could hear me!! lol That was a Miracle happening, Miracles can and will happen... all you need is a little Faith, Jon told me to "Keep the Faith" 20 years earlier and I kept it and I have to Thank Marsha, Emily and Bonjovi, for making me realize that there are Miracles and they do come true!!! I am Thankful for nights that turn into mornings, friends that turn into Family and dreams that turn into reality. This memory, was a treasure!! The one thing that I was hoping for that night never happened, I thought I'd see Pierre Roberts, from 93.3 W.M.M.R., and get a hug from that long hair Hippie, but I never saw him, he was EVERYWHERE he is just so popular, maybe next time!! That night was so SPECIAL, Cinderella got her wish, she got to hear "Bad Medicine" LIVE, after 20 years and she LOVED every second of that night!!
