Where it all started? well... I guess it was that day 1986, I was 13 years old then and my best friend took me to a records store (vinyl, no cds yet) to buy my first album ever !! and there were next to each other: Bon Jovi's Sippery When Wet and Europe's The Final countdown. The Final countdown was everywhere, every radio station, every video channel and every bar was playing the song... but for some reason I decided to go against mainstream and took the Slippery record out of the shelf. BJ is special to me since then considering it was my first record. I loved to play it entirely... then the second moment of truth, my first gig ever... yes! it was Bon Jovi... February 18th, 1990... 16 years old... Guadalajara, Mexico, last date for the New Jersey world your. It was scheduled for Friday and Saturday, so I traveled overnight from my home town Queretaro (6 hour bus ride) with a friend and arrived Saturday morning at the bus station to hear the news: students were upset because the venue where the concert would take place (Guadalajara University's stadium) was contracted without their permission and they started a rampage act with riots, burned cars outside the venue and were repressed by police... as a result the Friday concert was postponed... I thought BJ would be flying back home considering these serious incidents, so we went to the stadium and it was chaos, Friday's concert attendees still waiting and Saturday's concert crowd starting to arrive. For some miracle act, BJ accepted to play 2 gigs on the same day !! they played afternoon for the Friday crowd and evening for the Saturday ticket holders. I entered the Saturday evening one and was witness of the last concert of that tour and the last for a long time, it was a real party, it ended up with Mariachi as farewell and later I knew that every band member left without saying goodbye and Alec John Such never came back. They got together until the Keep The Faith album... Those two facts were enough to have BJ as my top band, I love each one of their records, and they are the soundtrack for every important moment in my life. I remember a BJ song related to every important moment either sad, happy, romantic or tough. Later on, I participated in the contest to select the best quotes for the 100,000,000,000 fans can't be wrong boxset and... I was selected !!!! My quote is printed in the booklet... More love on top of what I already had... and I have had the chance to see him live at Mexico City for the One Wild Night, I'll Sleep When I'm Dead, These Days, The Circle and What About Now tours... Some remarkable story from those concerts: during the Crush tour, 60,000 crown in an open air stadium (Foro Sol) with a heavy rain and thunderstorm. Collective Soul was the opening act and after 3 songs they stopped playing arguing electrical shock risk due to the thunderstorm, we all thouhgt it would be cancelled but BJ came out said that their fans deserved respect and if fans are wet, the band would be wet... and they played the full show under the thunderstorm... Wow! I remember they gained my loyalty forever after that moment... my next crazy act... Next March I will drive all the way from Mexico City to LA (27 hour car drive) for the THINFS gig as part of the runaway.com tours, so finally will have the chance to meet him personally and have a photo with the band. I'll tell you how it goes !!
